Opteron HP workstations for Lucasfilm

After long weeks of negotiations, HP has uncovered a three-year, multi-million-dollar deal that the company’s spokesmen announced recently.

Under the agreement, the Palo Alto company will be able to ship nearly 1000 HP wx9300 workstations to Lucasfilm’s new Letterman Digital Arts headquarters, which will be built in San Francisco. The dual-core AMD Opteron-based systems will primarily support the development of video games, visual effects and animations, most likely using a graphics processing unit based on SLI technology used by NVIDIA. In addition to the computers, the HP StorageWorks XP 1200 disk system was ordered by a company named after the creator of the Star Wars saga. Neither the price of the system capable of storing 35 Terabytes in its current form nor any other financial details have been disclosed.
