Zotac offers HTPC builders a cheap but sympathetic video card

Although the GeForce 8400GS is not a very muscular piece, its size and HDMI output can be ideal for HTPC builders…

Zotac's video card called "G98-8400GS 256MB GDDR3" can be a tempting alternative especially for HTPC enthusiasts if you don't need 3D power to move mountains, but quiet operation and low operating temperatures are important.

Zotac didn't take things for granted and also provided the card with an HDMI output, so with a suitable display we can really build a real home theater PC. In terms of outputs, the card is so multifunctional that it comes with two backs. By default, HDMI and DVI are available, but if you still need the good old D-SUB and S-video connectors, you can also connect another back cover to the card using a ribbon cable. In addition, the graphics core has been given the PV3 engine, capable of fully hardware decoding H.264 and VC1 content. We can't have too high expectations for performance, but Zotac has created it here as well, training the factory clocks to a 600 MHz GPU and a 1600 MHz frequency. To do this, it placed a G98 GPU and 1.2 ns GDDR3 chips on the PCB, for a total of 256 MB, which can be increased to up to 1 GB of system memory through TurboCache technology.
