NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX + against the ATI Radeon HD 4850

NVIDIA has taken a surprising step.

NVIDIA reacts to the ATI Radeon HD 4850 by introducing a "new" model and by reducing the price. The GeForce 9 series is supplemented with a so-called 9800 GTX+, which, as the name suggests, is nothing but a 9800 GTX with an increased clock speed. Expressed in OC numbers, it means that the operating frequency of the graphics processor was increased from 675 to 738, and that of the shader units from 1688 to 1836, while that of the memory remained unchanged (2200 MHz).

The GeForce 9800 GTX+ will hit stores at a suggested retail price of $229, bringing the "traditional" 9800 GTX down to $199. The official launch is rumored to take place on June 26, and sales are expected to begin in mid-July.

For comparison, it’s worth mentioning the one coming out of Foxconn’s workshop GeForce 9800 GTX Extreme clock signals: the 780/2360 MHz values are indeed higher than what NVIDIA "achieved" for the 9800 GTX+.
