NVIDIA: 11nm GPUs with 5000 stream processors for 2015

The following statement was made by Bill Dally at the Design Automation Conference.

Bill Dally, a senior scientist at NVIDIA at the Design Automation Conference, said computing is currently at a stage where performance gains come from parallelization and efficiency gains.

“Chip developers need tools and techniques to optimize performance, both locally and internationally. We visit EDA (Electric Design Automation) to put the tools in our hands. We would expect these high-level tools to provide insight into the performance of architectures at an early stage in design. ” Dally said (free translation).

According to Dally’s predictions, GPUs will evolve at a rapid rate in the coming years and by 2015, the cores will be built from 5000 stream processors, providing approximately 20 TFLOP computing power on an 11nm manufacturing base.

Dally said the improved EDA tools will allow performance to increase in much larger jumps than Moore’s law would otherwise allow.
