Nokia - Live TV on your mobile phone

Mobile TV coverage will continue at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in August.

Guests of the companies behind the Finnish mobile TV project can use mobile TV for the first time at an international sporting event. YLE (Finnish Television) offers a multi-channel package for the mobile TV audience. The package will feature the domestic coverage of the World Cup, including both YLE TV1 and YLE TV2. Mobile TV viewers can also view summaries compiled for international channels and see five World Cup specials on each sport (running numbers, jumping and throwing numbers, walking numbers, marathon). This allows viewers to follow each event from start to finish without interruption.

During the World Athletics Championships, mobile TV viewers will also receive traditional YLE TV1, MTV3, Nelonen, CNN, BBC World, and Eurosport broadcasts. You can watch real-time TV on your Nokia 7710 smartphone with the optional mobile TV.

In connection with the World Athletics Championships, the various uses of mobile television can be demonstrated in an excellent way, in particular the creation of new types of content for mobile television sets. For example, users can also track races when they head to the stadium or when they are away from events.

Digita, Elisa, MTV, Nelonen, Nokia, Sonera, and YLE jointly conducted a trial of mobile TV in Finland between March 2005, 8 and June 2005, 20. A test conducted in the Helsinki area looked at whether people were watching television on a mobile device. The first results of the trial run show that test participants favored mobile TVs: 58 percent thought mobile TV services would be popular. The usual channels were also watched on a mobile phone and they spent 5-30 minutes a day in front of the display. The final results of the Finnish mobile TV test will be published on 2005 August 30.

With DVB-H technology, the programs of television channels can be efficiently delivered to the users of mobile devices. Viewers can access television broadcasts and channels specializing in certain events live and cost-effectively, regardless of the number of people receiving the broadcast. Users can easily use the TV service, and additional interactive services are just as easily accessible from a mobile TV device.
