Nintendo: Serious expectations for Wii
Nintendo has set the bar very high against Wii.
One head of Nintendo’s U.S. division, named George Harrison, said the Japanese company did not have any plans for a success console: according to preliminary estimates, by 2012, the manufacturer would sell about 35 million Wiit units in the United States. By comparison, it is worth mentioning that 2 million copies of the "evergreen" PS38 have sold in the U.S. in seven years.
Since its premiere, Wii has found about 2,5 million owners in the U.S. alone, and has been consistently at the top of sales figures, with the exception of the PS2, putting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 behind. This is mainly due to the low price and the unique gaming experience provided by the console, and Nintendo is the only console manufacturer to have sold its product profitably since the start of distribution.
