No more first generation PlayStation

After eleven years, as demand fell sharply and the third release approached, Sony stopped production of its first gaming console.

At the end of 1994, Sony's first PlayStation game machine hit stores in Japan, followed by a few months later in the US and European markets. During its eleven-year manufacturing period, the base of the console remained virtually unchanged, with the exception of external and some minor electronic modifications involving a product upgrade, and the PlayStation brand was changed to PSone in 2000.

At the same time as the production shutdown, the Japanese company announced that some of the games made for the PSone will also be available on their portable gaming machines and can be downloaded from the Internet by PSP owners. The switch is also facilitated by the fact that most games made for the first generation console can run on newer devices without any problems.

The discontinuation of the PlayStation was a completely logical and justified step on the part of Sony, as the PlayStation 3, which will be launched in the near future, continuous postponement of its premiere partly due to insufficient production capacity, a fact confirmed by the management.

PSone is still available in limited quantities, subject to availability.
