No need to worry about AMD Trinity APUs
AMD has responded to an issue raised by X-bit Labs. The popular test site found that AMD’s latest A-Series APUs (Trinity) may not be able to keep the default clock in some cases. To give an example: the AMD A10-5800K runs at 3,80 GHz by default, but instead there have been cases where it has only run at 3,40 GHz. The reason is simple, the product would have exceeded the TDP limit imposed on it, causing the clock to scale back.
AMD’s response was that Linpack, used by X-bit Labs, is one of the few synthetic applications that can cause such an outstanding load that the APU would step out of the defined power limit. However, there is no cause for concern, as this is a special situation that will not recur with normal, everyday use.
