With four basic colors and 3D, this is the Sharp RGBY 3D panel
Sharp doesn’t seem to have given up 3D shutter technology, they are further honing the solution.
Their new panel introduces several ways to improve image quality, but the most interesting of these is that the LCD panel uses four base colors instead of three. By modifying the pixel structure, yellow has been added in addition to the usual red, green, and blue colors, which, according to the company, greatly improves the naturalness of the image, which is most noticeable in shades of yellow, gold, and skin.
The big disadvantage of the shutter solution is ghosting. Against this, Sharp is using a side-mount scanning LED backlight on the side of the screen, which the company says eliminates the annoying phenomenon almost completely. According to Sharp experts, the brightness of the new panel is 3 times higher with a 1,8-dimensional display than with solutions using a traditional shutter solution.
