BenQ Mobile is launched

On October 1, BenQ Mobile, BenQ Corporation's wireless communications business, began operations. BenQ announced in June that it will acquire the Siemens Mobile Phones division, and the new company will hit the market at the original scheduled time.

According to data from Gartner Dataquest, the company has a global market share of 5,2 percent, making it the sixth largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. The new company aims to be a key player in the mobile device market.

BenQ Mobile will be CEO Clemens J. Joos and will be chaired by Jerry Wang, Vice President of Marketing, BenQ Corp. “We are very pleased to have found a form of partnership that combines the strengths of the two partners, creating the best possible starting position for the new organization,” stressed Clemens Joos, CEO of BenQ Mobile. “We have more than 7.000 dedicated employees who can’t wait to start a great new company and launch exciting yet elegant products next year.”

“The harmony that characterizes the partnership and the enthusiasm of the employees of the two companies encourage us to look to the future with pride and confidence,” said KY Lee, President and CEO of BenQ Corporation.

Founded in 2005, the new company relies on successful parent companies. BenQ Mobile creates value for consumers with customer-centric service and user needs and expectations in mind. The Munich-based company employs more than 7.000 people worldwide in research and development, design, sales, marketing, shipping and customer service.
The acquisition will enable BenQ to combine its experience in the consumer electronics market with Siemens' expertise in the manufacture of mobile phones and accessories. BenQ has become a leader in the production of networked digital products (including LCD TVs, monitors, mp3 players, digital cameras, projectors and optical storage units) and has started to grow rapidly. Siemens has won recognition for its stylish design, quality products and service-oriented phones. Siemens' leadership in key European and fast-growing Latin American markets, combined with BenQ's strong position in Asian markets, is the perfect foundation for building an international brand for BenQ Mobile. The partnership will strengthen BenQ's innovative strength, particularly in communications, consumer electronics and computer technology, increase integration and provide the market with products to meet the demands of the new digital age.

Under the license agreement, BenQ Mobile may use the Siemens brand for 18 months. Until 2006, consumers will meet both brands, while the new, common brand will be introduced in spring 2006.
