Bulldozer processors receive Microsoft patch (updated)

As explained several times, the Windows 7 scheduler is unfamiliar with the CMT (Cluster-based Multi-threading) process used in Bulldozert processors, so it does not perform the task allocation in the most efficient way and alternates processing between cores frequently. Microsoft programmers, on the other hand, came up with exemplary speed with bug fixes.

Bulldozer processors receive Microsoft patch (updated)

The hotfix can be installed on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The official description mentions that the error explained above has a detrimental effect on the performance of AMD Bulldozer processors - in their view, also at idle power. The extent of performance increase is not explained, but since it depends on several circumstances, it is really not an easy task to determine exactly this. By definition, the patch is designed for users who already have such a processor. The download ide click to get started.

The first image shows that when modules that are currently operating at low utilization cannot be idled due to improper handling of the fibers, the load is essentially distributed. In the second picture we can see the ideal condition. Two modules are essentially switched off, and the TDP frame thus released can be used to increase the performance of the active units, i.e. the Turbo Core can be activated.

AMD Turbo Core technology can significantly increase the clock speed of processor cores, but current consumption should not exceed the TDP frame. The maximum Turbo Core (4,2 GHz) applies to half of the modules, and the intermediate frequency (3,8 GHz) takes effect when all cores are active but the floating point units (Flex FP) are not currently on.

Updated:

The fix may have been released prematurely because visitors to the Microsoft Web site now receive the following message: The Knowledge Base article does not include a public hotfix. THE HT4U and the Planet 3D Now he was still able to test the fix, but the results show an unexpected picture. Except in a few cases, we can’t see an acceleration, but there has been a loss of performance in several places.

This is not very encouraging so far.

According to Bright Side Of News, two fixes are being made for the Bulldozer processors, but the second, which promises more significant acceleration, will only be released in the first quarter of 2012.
