PalmOS is dead
In recent weeks, information has come to light from several sources that PalmSource will permanently stop developing PalmOS, putting development on a new footing.
PalmOS seems to be over. It is not known whether these are just rumors or whether this highly successful operating system is really over, but the new development direction has - perhaps not surprisingly - become Linux. Linux has already successfully overcome obstacles in a number of areas and seems to be facing another milestone. The first Linux-based Palm operating system is expected to be released next year, with the first devices expected in 2007. The previous acquisition of China MobileSoft may provide a good basis for development. First there will be a version with phone functions, later it will hopefully be expanded with palmtops. We look forward to further developments.
