Firefox 22 preview is amazingly fast - updated!
For the avoidance of doubt, this is not to say that every web page now loads 5 seconds earlier. OdinMonkey is “just” designed to accelerate a subset of JavaScript (asm.js) to a near-native level. The benefits of this development can be seen on a few pages at the moment, but may still be important in the future as it can give a whole new impetus to various web applications. The results of the measurements made by TechCrunch can be seen in the image below.
If all goes well, the default accessory for Firefox 22, which will be released in June, could be OdinMonkey - from there, it’s up to web developers to showcase the potential of the technology.
Note: We also tried the alpha release for the duration of a fleeting measurement. The rate of acceleration is really staggering, the so-called ammo.js benchmark during which we saw more than fourfold progress.
