Maxell: holographic plates later this year

Maxell has been developing its holographic storage technology with InPhase Technologies for years.

Rich D \\ ”Ambrise, technical director of Maxell, said the 300GB holographic discs will be available around November-December this year. According to the current schedule, 800GB second-generation disks will be released in 2008, while 1,6TB media is expected by 2010.

For the 300GB version, the data transfer rate will be 20 MB per second, while for the peak version of 1,6 TB, this figure will already be 120 MB. According to the manufacturer, the life of the holographic plate is more than 50 years.
