Lenovo: Another faulty notebook batteries

As is well known, in 2006, Sony was forced to replace more than 10 million laptop batteries due to their tendency to overheat. This recall action cost the Japanese company about $ 444 million.

Of course, from the case mentioned in the introduction Lenovo was not left out either, more than 500 notebooks were affected by this problem. Now 208 batteries need to be replaced, but this time it’s not about Sony units, it’s about Sanyo’s 9-cell, lithium-ion products.

In this case, too, there is a risk of overheating and ignition, so Lenovo is asking the owners of the affected Thinkpad notebooks - R60, R60e, T60, T60p, Z60m, Z61e, Z61m, and Z61p Avoid battery operation until a free replacement process is in place.

It is important to note that only and exclusively batteries with serial number 92P1131 manufactured between November 2005 and February 2007 are covered by the recall promotion.
