The machine essentially takes advantage of its unprecedented speed. The robot’s camera interprets the human hand gesture in a fraction of a second, and then quickly decides whether the stone, paper, or scissors are the right signal to win the game. From a technical point of view, this is a very big thing, as it is only during the super-decelerations that you can see that the robot is cheating by relying on its unparalleled reaction time.
