NVIDIA stops manufacturing the 8800 Ultra

This month, the "grand old man" retires.

NVIDIA has informed its partners that it will not take any more orders for 8800 Ultra video cards in the future. In addition to the announcement, he also provided them with advice advising him to sell the stocks as soon as possible.

This is a clear indication that something new is in the pipeline, expected to arrive around mid-February.

As we know, NVIDIA is replacing the 8800 Ultra with a dual G92 core-based 9800 GX2, a huge card (not that the 8800 Ultra was so tiny) that is likely to be faster than the R680, assuming a simple G92 is faster than the RV670 - of course anything can happen.

The 8800 Ultra enters the museum of video cards seven months after its launch as the most powerful G80 VGA. He was able to stay at the top throughout his career, and as the wise say: "you have to stop at the top" - and the 8800 Ultra is doing just that now...
