Failure is Sony PSP's own media format

Sony has admitted the failure of its handheld game console optical disc.

The complete failure of the UMD format was mainly due to higher production costs. Film production and distribution companies hardly make a film on it, as it is much more expensive than DVD, yet the extras so popular with consumers do not fit on it due to limited capacity. Sony PSP owners also prefer to copy the contents of the original DVDs to MemoryStick cards, converting them to suit their own needs.

The Japanese company virtually acknowledged the failure of UMD by releasing a package of memory cards to replace it. The only problem with this, however, is that it is terribly expensive compared to competing products. The 1GB version costs $ 60 and the 2 gigabyte costs $ 100. In comparison, other manufacturers sell the same products at prices around $ 24 and $ 55 and $ 70, respectively.
