Microsoft and Google are serious about signing in without a password.

A passwordless life is approaching

This, of course, requires, above all, a uniform standard. The key word at this point is FIDO 2 0, i.e. Fast Identity Online 2.0.

PCMag recently announced that the two giants named above gave a spectacular presentation on the topic at the RSA 2018 conference. Google entered the PayPal website with a phone with a fingerprint sensor; presumably the orders were also approved with this identification.

Microsoft also demoed a similarly convenient method; Windows Hello has made it unnecessary to use a password to authenticate the user. In addition to the former, the system also supports fingerprint authentication, which may come in handy for purchases.

It’s good to know that FIDO 2.0 is serious about safety as well as safety. It is worth considering that in 2016, 81% of data thefts occurred because the information was protected with too weak a password, PCMag says. The technology supports all major browsers, it is not picky with biometric devices, it can also work on smartphones and desktops (picture above).

FIDO 2.0 may spread widely next year.
