Windows 8 has received a major fix pack

Microsoft has changed its previous practice so that the new operating system will receive fixes much more often than before that do not affect security but performance and compatibility.

Steven Sinofsky explained that so far such fixes have been largely focused on service packs, but for Windows 8 we get the enhancements in conjunction with the usual “monthly patch Tuesday”. This is a good example of how the software giant takes criticism of the new system seriously and tries to improve the situation in light of that.

We will receive such fixes relatively often.

The size of the first major fix pack for Windows 8 (KB2756872) is 100 MB and introduces the following innovations and enhancements:

  • Better energy efficiency, which can bring longer run time for notebook owners.
  • Improved performance on the new Start screen.
  • Better playback of audio and video content.
  • Windows 8 compatibility with applications and drivers has been improved.

Interestingly, after installing the update, an unexpected phenomenon may occur: Windows may ask you to restart when you turn certain features on or off (such as remote access).
