Wondering what phone you're buying this year? We will betray you!

Barely the first day of the year has passed, we have already received some interesting news about the mid-range MediaTek processors of the near future.

Wondering what phone you're buying this year? We will betray you!

MediaTek has sought to provide mobile manufacturers with the right foundation for both low-end, mid-range and high-end phones. Last year, however, it turned out that they had failed to make a breakthrough in the top category, so the capital invested in the Helio X30 chip will probably never pay off again. Few manufacturers have chosen this SoC for their phones, so MediaTek has decided to focus on the mid-range in the future.

We have already written about the chip developed for the lower segment of the middle category, these are the Helio P23 and Helio P30. You can read the article here: Learn the Future Mid-Range Phone Processors!

Now information has been leaked about new tiles destined for the mid-range upper segment. Again, two products arrive, these are the Helio P40 and the Helio P70.

Helio P40

The Helio P40 gets an eight-core processor consisting of four 2,0 GHz A73 cores and four 2,0 GHz A53 cores. The graphics were entrusted to the 700 MHz Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. The chip's multimedia capabilities have also been improved, with manufacturers adding up to a 32-megapixel camera. The chipset is also capable of supporting 8 GB of LPDDR1866x RAM up to 4 MHz. The Helio P40 supports enhanced AI with Tensor Flow support. Last but not least, we get LTE cat.7 support with the chipset.

Helio P70

The Helio P70 is expected to be a competitor to the Snapdragon 660 in terms of capabilities, at least in terms of processor cores, as it works similarly with four 2,5GHz A73 cores and four 2,0 GHz A53 cores. Compared to the P40, not only will there be a difference in clock speeds, the GPU will also be better, this enhanced 800 MHz quad-core Mali-G72 MP4 GPU will be available with the phones based on the Helio P70. The Helio P70, like its smaller sibling, supports 8GB but faster LPDDR4X memory. The performance of the new SoC will roughly match that of the previous series' high-end chip, the X30.

Manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Gionee have already signed up for the new chip, and it is virtually certain that Meizu will also build a phone on it.
