Samsung is expanding its Series 5 family with two Ultrabooks

Samsung is expanding its Series 5 family with two UltrabooksSlightly ill-timed, Samsung will send two new Ultrabooks to battle in South Korea in late December.

The Series 5 family is now expanded to include Ultrabook laptops with 13- and 14-inch displays. Previously, this series included Chromebooks, but times are changing and Samsung is changing. Both models use Sandy Bridge architecture with a Core i5 processor, and a maximum of 8GB of memory can be requested on the machines. If we’re outsourced for speed, we can replace the HDDs with a 128GB SSD, but if we need a lot of storage, we’re not bad either, as the hard drive versions also come with a 16GB SSD that the It will use ExpressCache technology.

The 14″ matte display has a resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels, and the machine “packaged” in an aluminum housing is 20,9 millimeters thick. This is perhaps a little more than what we expect from an Ultrabook, but it meets the expectations of the category and we hope that this will be our biggest problem, because the 1 TB HDD and the AMD HD 7550M graphics card compensate us. The 1,8-kilogram device also includes an optical drive and the usual range of accessories, including Ethernet, USB ports, a WiFi module, and VGA and HDMI connectors.

The 13-inch Series 5 member is narrower than its brother, as it rises just 14,9 millimeters from the tabletop, plus a 1,4-pound weight. However, compactness comes at a price, on the one hand we have to give up the bigger display, of course, and the capacity of the hard drive is halved and the AMD Radeon graphics controller is no longer included in this model, the latter is replaced by Intel's integrated solution. Of course, the other components (other display features, connectors, etc.) are the same as the larger and more expensive version.

Samsung claims that thanks to ExpressCache, laptops return from hibernation in 7 seconds and from sleep in 2 seconds. The 13-inch model will be priced between $ 1135 and $ 1298, while the 14-inch Ultrabook will be priced between $ 1167 and 1341.
