Two special video cards from the PowerColor workshop (Updated!)

Az AMD one of its biggest manufacturing partners is dealing with a Radeon HD 6950 as well as a water-cooled 6990 monster.

A PowerColor came up with two self-designed video cards that use a graphics processor codenamed Cayman. One of the riders is a modified Radeon HD 6950 that has been given a cooling christening Vortex. This is a solution where the height of the two 8 cm fans above the dense aluminum ribs can be adjusted manually (the formula also includes four copper heat pipes). Among other things, this has the advantage that with a greater distance, the cooling efficiency is improved and wind noise is reduced at the same time. Of course, this idea also has the disadvantage of being able to occupy up to three card slots. By the way, cooling called Vortex is not a new thing, as the manufacturer has already used this technology in the Evergreen era for a On Radeon HD 5770. The heart of the product, by the way, will be a GPU called the Cayman Pro equipped with a 1408 stream processor, the clocks are still unknown.

The novelty is called Vortex PCS ++ HD6950 and will be available in two versions on store shelves, where the difference is in the amount of GDDR5 chips used as onboard memory, as there will be a 1GB and a 2GB version. There is no information about the launch of the product and pricing, further details are expected in the coming weeks.

The product worth mentioning next is a Radeon HD 6990 monster, where the manufacturer opted for water cooling rather than air cooling. The beast named LCS HD 6990 will come with a complete water cooler block and will not take up more than one card slot. The two GPUs, called the Cayman XT, still do with 3.072 stream processors, and the on-board memory is 4GB, but unfortunately no specific data has been released on the clocks either.

The video outputs of the monster, which requires two eight-pin PCI-E power cords, include a DVI and four Mini-DisplayPorts, so Eyefinity support is also not in question, just as the buyer does not have to give up HD3D. The time of launch and the expected price are also obscured here, but the latter will certainly not be said to be friends.

Update:

As for the product called Vortex, the veil has fallen on the exact value of the clocks. Accordingly, a GPU called the Cayman Pro will run at 800 MHz instead of 850 MHz, while 2GB of GDDR5 onboard memory will run at 5.000 MHz instead of 5.200 MHz. The product itself a PowerColor PCS + HD6950 2GB GDDR5 Vortex II Edition is called from which two editions have been made, the only difference between the two will be that the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is packaged in the box for one. On the back panel, two DVI, one HDMI, and two Mini-DisplayPorts were inserted between the terminals. Expected prices will still have to wait.
