Pictures of the new PlayStation 3 (updated)

We’ve reported on it before, but now fresh, crisp images have arrived.
superslim PS3_e Based on FCC sketches leaked a couple of days ago, the new Sony PlayStation 3 has been dubbed the PS3 Cech-4001x - the current versions run under the name CECH-3000. The images that have just been published also confirm this, or pull the cover off of one more thing: the automated disc tray is a thing of the past, instead we can insert the optical disc by opening a hinged lid. In essence, they came up with the solution we were already used to with the PS2 Slim. This step obviously serves to reduce production costs, but it is also important to note that the drive takes up less space.

The PS3 Slim Super can bear the following model numbers: CECH-4011A (16 GB), CECH4011B (250 GB), and CECH-4011C (500 GB). Regarding the CECH-4011A, we would not be poisoned by the 16GB capacity. It is possible that the document this point is written and that number would be 160 GB, but if that’s not the case, we could be dealing with a super-cheap machine.
