Is ECC memory required for Windows Vista?

Microsoft wants to make its operating system even more stable with RAM that supports automatic error correction.

Although the final release date is still quite far away, Microsoft is already trying to show its customers that the transition will be nowhere near as easy as it is with Windows 98 or Windows XP.

We’ve learned in the past that Vista’s hardware requirements set the standard quite high, especially in terms of raw computing performance and graphics subsystem. This was followed by innovations related to DRM (Digital Rights Management), which primarily tested writers of drivers.

According to the latest news, the next step is to recommend ECC (Error Checking & Correction) RAMs, which have so far been too expensive and difficult to obtain in home computers, and which have been considered a death sentence by tuners. In fact, in addition to these drawbacks, the introduction of austerity also promises many benefits: poor quality memory often leads to untraceable system downtime and failures.

In its current view, Microsoft does not make the process mandatory for obtaining the “Vista Ready” logo, however, it is better to keep this information in mind when purchasing new parts.
