Spying on cell phones

More and more malware is expected to spy on mobile phones.

In the PC world, spyware has already shown that they need to be taken very seriously, as they can cause a lot of damage and headaches. However, computer malware that threatens confidential information can be joined by more sophisticated mobile spyware. At least that’s what Jarno Niemela, F-Secure’s renowned mobile security expert, said.

According to the specialist, it is still possible to encounter spyware that threatens mobile devices, but these do not yet have really "sophisticated" codes. However, the mobile world also promises many illegal money-making opportunities for attackers, so more and more programmers will pay more attention to these platforms as well. Niemela fears that all this will lead to increasingly difficult detection of spyware compatible with mobile phones. The Mobile SpySuite application, which, according to experts, can be considered the first mobile spyware generating tool, and whose price can reach up to 12500 dollars, shows how much money is still circulating in the field of these spyware programs. The software allows you to spy on some Nokia phones.

Currently, mobile pests are far from spreading at the same rate as their PC counterparts. However, this does not mean that the threat they report does not have to be taken into account. The fact that monitoring is becoming easier and easier for mobile phones is also proven by the growing popularity of legal software called Neo-call and FlexiSpy. The programs are able to send SMS messages in the background to predefined phone numbers. These can be used to generate notifications, for example, from information about calls made from devices, and to keep track of the keys the phone owner has pressed. FlexiSpy also provides the ability to view the current physical position of GPS-enabled devices through a web interface.

Niemela also provided some good advice on fighting mobile threats. According to the expert, it is advisable to install updates on phones as well, and it is wise for those who also install an antivirus application on their mobile phones. In addition, Niemela only recommended installing software from a trusted source and stressed the proper use of passwords. In many cases, attackers can only install their malware if they have physical access to their phone.
