New VelociRaptors on the horizon

The new predators will also support the latest SATA standard.

For a short time, information on next-generation VelociRapters codenamed “VR200M” could be found on Western Digital support pages. Although the bug was fixed immediately after the comment, it was too late. The PDF file containing the information is already spreading on the World Wide Web.

The leaked documentation contains the following information:

The plates of newcomers continue to spin at 10.000 per minute and are 15% faster than the previous generation. The cache size is fattened to 32 MB and the capacity is 600 GB, which is achieved with 3 disks. The 6 GB / s SATA interface provides double the bandwidth for the data stream. The read and write speeds are set to 145 MB / s. This value is an excellent result for an HDD, but of course the bandwidth offered by the new SATA standard is far from being utilized.

The average positioning time is 3,6 ms for reading and 4,2 ms for writing. The time between two failures, according to the document, is 1,4 million hours. The manufacturer guarantees the products for 5 years.

They have also improved in terms of consumption, as they require 4,3 watts less Idle, ie at rest, than their previous generation (i.e. current) counterparts. The maximum power consumption for random read / write is 6,2 watts. For sequential read / write, this figure is 6,8 watts. Noise emissions are 37 dB under load and 30 dB without load. Models with 150, 300, 450 and 600 GB capacities will be available in the series.
