New SiS chipsets

SiS’s chip sets announced today are all made for the AMD AM2.

SiS claims the new chipsets on both the mobile and desktop lines will completely cover the market from the lower category to the top. The manufacturer also appears on both product lines with chips with an integrated graphics controller.

Their desktop chipsets support all previously known AM2 socket processors (Athlon 64 / FX / X2, Sempron, Opteron 100 series). One is the SiS756, about which the manufacturer has so far only stated that it has a 16x PCI Express controller. The other, the SiS761GX - which also supports PCI Express 16x graphics cards - also includes a built-in graphics core called Mirage 1.

There will be a choice of four chips for those who want a SiS chipset in their notebook in addition to their AMD S1 or AM2 mobile processor. Two of these are mobile versions of desktop tiles, named SiSM756 and SiSM761GX. These are expected to have the same features as their dry counterparts, only characterized by lower consumption and a slightly higher price. The other two will be known as SiSM760 and SiSM760GX. These chips differ from the versions mentioned before in that they do not support the replacement of video cards on a 16-fold PCI Express bus at all, but instead their graphics controller, named Mirage 2, helps with display.

SiS has not yet provided more information about the newcomers, just that all the tiles will support HyperStreaming Technology and MuTIOL 1G.

The final picture of chipsets that support AMD AM2 is slowly emerging. Although VIA has not yet released information on these chips, there is a previous one about NVIDIA products from the news we could find out.
