New 8-core CPUs from Intel
Intel is contrasting the server market with its new 8 cores.
After AMD introduced its processors for the new 8 and 12 core servers, Intel also came up with its own 8 core solutions.
The Xeon 7550 and 7560 are clocked at 2,0 GHz and 2,26 GHz. Unlike the Core i7 980X, they are still made with 45nm manufacturing technology.
Of course, they support Turbo mode, which allows them to accelerate to 2,4 and 2,66 GHz. Thanks to HyperThreading technology, they can handle 16 threads at a time. Power consumption was determined by Intel in 130W (TDP). The Xeon 7550 and 7560 server processors fit into the LGA1567 socket.
The slower, Xeon X7550, costs $ 2729, while the faster, X7560, costs $ 3692.
