Ivy Bridge-E HEDT: 2013 only

Named after Intel’s next high-end desktop platform - the high-end desktop, or HEDT, the Ivy Bridge-E can only start next year. Until then, the Core i7-3970X will remain the lord.

The Ivy Bridge-E HEDT platform may see the light of day in the third quarter of 2013, but the good news for fans is that the processors will be compatible with the current LGA2011 socket boards, so we may just need a simple BIOS update. Although this is very important information, we also got only a few crumbs: the Ivy Bridge-E is based on 22nm manufacturing technology, the strongest version contains at least 6 cores and will be similarly expensive as the current Sandy Bridge-E.

You are very wrong to think that Intel will spend most of its time milling next year. According to the leaked schedule, the first Haswell chips will arrive as early as the second quarter. Nor should we forget that we will soon be able to honor a new cannon in the person of the Core i7-3970X, so now we only need one or two bigger fish in the water from the AMD side, otherwise fishing will be very expensive fun.
