QuickTime is vulnerable again

Another vulnerability has been identified in QuickTime.

Petko Petkov, the renowned security expert, is now linked to the discovery of another serious vulnerability. Petkov announced that he had encountered a rather dangerous security flaw in Apple's QuickTime application that could allow an attacker to take complete control of the affected systems. The specialist has only shared the details of the vulnerability with Apple developers so far, so the information needed to exploit the vulnerability is not yet available.

Petkov, to substantiate his claims, demonstrated in a demonstration that the vulnerability really exists. The technician first loaded a specially crafted multimedia file into QuickTime running Windows XP SP2, through which he performed various operations. For example, you opened Paint, Calculator, and Notepad without user intervention. He then successfully repeated the simulated attack under a virtually running Vista operating system.

The expert said that the newly discovered vulnerability is not yet a serious risk, as the methods and codes required to exploit it are not known to others. Nevertheless, Apple developers must work to patch the vulnerability as soon as possible. Apple has not yet commented on the vulnerability discovered by Petkov, so it is not known when the required update may become available.
