Intel Pentium D 805

The AMD Athlon 64 X2 With a reputation of 3800+ and 4000+ At about the same time, Intel's "entry-level" dual-core processor, the Pentium D 805, also came to light.

The Pentium D 805 runs at 2,66 GHz, which makes it easy to tell if you’re using the good old 533 MHz system bus - we’ll probably feel a lot about that in its performance as well. The good news, however, is that this solution for the cost-sensitive market also boasts 1 MB of second-level cache per core, meaning it still has plenty of power left. So far, the company’s cheapest Pentium D has been the 820, which runs at 2,80 GHz with an 800 MHz QPB.

However, since we know full well that dual-core Intel processors only officially run on motherboards with a member of the latest i945 and i955 chipset family, it’s an interesting question what’s the point of keeping the good old 533 MHz system bus alive. The answer to this question could be the news of the i945GZ, which may arrive early next year. The product supports 800 and 533 MHz system bus, has a single-channel DDR2 memory controller, and follows the traditions of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer and is only willing to display images with the built-in Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, ie no external PCI Express × 16 support.

So all of this is a good indication that dual-core processors bringing large-scale parallel processing to our homes will conquer very strongly over the next year, as the Pentium D 805 will certainly be much cheaper than the $ 820 version of the 241 version. We must not lose sight of the fact that the vast majority of desktop computers are not about computer games either, so even if they do not get enough of the parallel operation for a long time, we can expect a much more convenient, smoother computer use in everyday use.

Once again, there is an interesting battle unfolding between the two major processor manufacturers, as AMD's dual-core solutions are proving to be more powerful for the time being, but at a price below $ 300, we certainly won't be able to get them for quite some time to come.
