IdeaCentre Q180: the smallest desktop / HTPC from Lenovo

IdeaCentre Q180: the smallest desktop / HTPC from LenovoLenovo recently introduced the IdeaCentre Q180. This desktop HTPC, which is also a desktop computer, is no bigger than a simple office file cabinet, yet it has enough potential to function as an excellent home multimedia center in conjunction with an HDTV.

With the IdeaCentre Q180, Lenovo wants to take it to a new level. Concerning the product, Nick Reynolds, managing director, said they want to give their consumers affordable hardware capable of playing the latest HD content and handling Blu-Ray 3D, allowing them to enjoy a variety of multimedia content even in their living rooms.

Let’s then turn to what is lurking in this 155 x 192 x 22 millimeter house. It is barely thicker than a file cabinet and yet has managed to incorporate several fresh technological elements. At the heart of the machine is an Intel Atom D2500 processor (1,86 GHz) complete with 4GB of DDR3 system memory and a 750GB hard drive or a 128GB SSD (whichever you choose).

An AMD Radeon HD 6450A is responsible for visual display. Of course, 802.11b / g / n Wi-Fi was also included in the repertoire if we neglected a wired gigabit ethernet connection. In terms of outputs, we get HDMI, S / PDIF and VGA connectors, and they also take care of data storage, as both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 are available.

In addition to the appropriate picture quality, the associated sound is also provided with 7.1 channel surround sound. As for the control: you can also request a wireless keyboard for the Q180, which is a bit bigger than an average remote control [already wrote also about it]. With this, we are able to do everything we need wirelessly, sitting in the couch (web browsing, volume control, movie selection).

With VESA holes, you can easily attach it to the back of your TV. The IdeaCentre Q180 has been available since Nov. 22 and has an end-user price of $ 349 (this could increase further if you request an additional package that includes a blu-ray and card reader).
