Where is Google Lunar X?
ClassicR informs about Google's "Moon Moon" competition and the efforts of the Hungarian team, the stakes are huge!
On September 2007, 13, Google announced a large-scale Lunar X PRIZE (GLXP) student competition to help move to the next moon (also known as Moon 2.0) and scientific breakthroughs by rewarding it with a $ 30 million budget. the first few privately-funded space exploration teams capable of delivering their self-built spacecraft to the Moon and radiating a 500-degree panoramic image of the Earth after a minimum of 360 m. $ 20 million will be awarded to the first team to successfully land on the Moon with a robot, travel at least 500 meters and transmit high-resolution images and videos to Earth.
There is also a second prize of $5 million, as well as $5 million to potential special prize winners for extra capabilities such as long-distance travel (more than 5 km), imaging of man-made objects on the moon, detection of ice in lunar craters, use of remnants of the Apollo program discovery and survival of a moonlit night. X PRIZE provides the prize of 20 million dollars (4,2 billion HUF) to the first place until December 2012, 31, after that the prize money is "only" 2014 million dollars until December 31, 15. Little has been said about Lunar X since 2007, even though the project is alive and well and extremely popular. What is great news is that a Hungarian team has also indicated its intention to enter (a Puli Space Technologies), but they need $ 50.000 to do so. It was calculated that if 15.000 people give a minimum of 1000 HUF per person, the money would come together and there is a chance that a Hungarian team would win the Lunar X competition.
By the way, the name of the sponsors will be taken by the Puli to the Moon (so no one will be surprised if UFOs visit it at night) and each sponsor will receive a unique Moon photo (if they can successfully deliver their Moon vehicle). I believe that this is a goal that should be achieved not only by 15.000 Hungarians, but by everyone.
