The HD war is officially over

What you could have guessed yesterday has become certain and definitive today.

Toshiba announced at a press conference today that it will stop taking care of the HD DVD standard. Although the company did not specify the background to the decision, film publishers and retail chains, which have recently clearly voted in favor of the Sony format, may have played a major role in "discarding" the format. How the industry itself will react to this decision is not yet known, however, the value of Toshiba shares rose nearly 6 percent yesterday, which may even signal some relief from the company’s shareholders.

The HD war is officially over

The supply of HD DVD players and writers will be continuously reduced by the manufacturer, and it is planned that in April only the persistence of store stocks can delay the cessation of the fallen format. Of course, the manufacturer provides full support for the devices you have already purchased, so you don't have to worry about someone who voted for one of the parties a little hastily.

The question is, after that, how will Microsoft decide what will happen to the HD DVD drive that can be purchased alongside our Xbox 360 console? There has been no official response from Redmond yet, the rumor machine is predicting an Xbox with a Blu-ray drive anyway.
