One of the largest UK car insurers is calculating a higher fee for drivers using a Hotmail account - it’s so absurd that we’ve checked it from five sources.

The Admiral concluded that there could be more accidents associated with certain mailboxes, and this is relevant to the development of the applicant's risk profile. A very interesting phenomenon was noticed by The Sun when, after researching the GoCompare price comparison portal, it was discovered that the email address was important in Admiral’s profiling system. The well-known news site summed it up with:

We found on the GoCompare site that Admiral charges a manager with a Hotmail account a fee of £ 467,04, while setting it up for a Gmail address gives us £ 435,68.

The insurer acknowledged that their risk assessment algorithm also takes into account the electronic account, claiming that “some domain names can have more accidents than others”. Another interesting fact is that the name Mohammed can also significantly increase the cost of insurance, although today it is already the most popular boy name in the country.

Incidentally, the Admiral had previously appeared in the news with a hair-raising expression. The insurer would have determined the insurance premium for those with a fresh license and the premium discounts for experienced managers based on their Facebook posts, likes and activities, but the rules of the community portal explicitly prohibit the use of data in this way, the Insurance Review said in November 2016.
