GeForce 8800 Ultra officially as well

The birds have been chirping from the new card for quite some time, but so far it has been nothing more than a plausible rumor.

Now we can get some confirmation that the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra will indeed arrive. The proof is the 158.16 Vision Forceware drive, in which the newcomer is already named.

// 0190 - NVIDIA G80-400
// 0191 - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
// 0192 - NVIDIA G80-200
// 0193 - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
// 0194 - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra
// 0197 - NVIDIA G80-600

As we reported yesterday, the new card is expected to end up in very small quantities on store shelves. The manufacturer has a goal with it to set an opponent for products based on the ATI R600 core, if not otherwise, at least on paper. The sparrows also chirp that the Ultra will only differ from the GTX in cooling and clockwork, so it can’t be considered anything other than a factory-tuned card.

An interesting issue that we haven’t talked about yet is that with this move, NVIDIA is actually going through a six-month cycle, meaning it isn’t keeping the pace dictated to itself. The fact that mid-range cards arrive half a year later than the fastest versions also shows that the status quo, which has lasted for years, is overturned. Maybe from now on it will be the way to go and finally the manufacturers will slow down a bit?
