The free wifi service can be used on more and more trains from autumn. The development will provide fifty million passengers a year with free internet access on the fly. Based on the feedback and statistics of rail passengers, it can be stated that the demand for free wireless internet access is constantly increasing, which is mostly lacking for those passengers who want to spend their time usefully, working or having fun. Based on all this, MÁV-START is carrying out a significant development of the InterCity and Budapest suburban rail cars in order to increase the number of vehicles suitable for WiFi service. On-board Wi-Fi service will be available free of charge. Thanks to the expansion, fifty million passengers a year will be able to surf the internet for free on trains.

The development will affect nearly 750 vehicles, as a result of which the free wifi service will be available in all InterCity cars already in the autumn, and by the end of the year on a significant part of the Budapest suburban trains.

The MÁV Group solves the installation of the wifi equipment by choosing an economical solution in-house: the experts of MÁV-GÉPÉSZET Zrt. Perform the work. The installation of the necessary equipment and, in parallel, the competition of mobile operators in public procurement will soon begin.

MÁV-START already has previous experience in the field of wifi service, as it has been providing the possibility of free wireless internet access on some trains since September last year. Based on initial feedback, it is clear that passengers are satisfied with the service, the number of users and the amount of data downloaded is constantly increasing.
