Uniform, open identification in higher education

Launched by the National Institute for Information Infrastructure Development, the Higher Education and Research Trust Association (eduID) was launched in 2010 and today has more than 200 users with an eduID.

The members of the federation, created using international experience and open standards, are mainly higher education and research institutes, as well as service providers that provide services for this group. It also allows service providers to provide only to well-defined users of certain institutions or to provide institution-specific promotions.

For service providers, eduID is an external authentication solution that allows users to access the site easily and quickly without registration, similar to using larger social networks (Facebook, Google).

There is no central database in the association, the data of the users can be obtained from the participating universities or maintained by other institutions according to certain minimum requirements, as this ensures that service providers can work with up-to-date data. Joining the eduID alliance and participating in it is a condition that the institution's data management practices meet the requirements, but it is free of charge for both the institutions providing user data and the service organizations.
