More and more people are surfing the internet from Samsung devices

The study covers all Central and Eastern European countries where Gemius measures website traffic, ie Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Ukraine. . The data cover the period from 2012 to August 2013.

The research shows that Samsung’s share of all markets examined is growing in mobile internet traffic. Moreover, internet users in Belarus, Lithuania and Serbia are already browsing websites on Samsung smartphones and tablets more often. A further significant increase is expected soon in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, where the share of Korean assets in Internet-generated traffic is gradually increasing, jeopardizing the position of the Cupertino giant.

Looking back over the past year, Apple still holds a leading position in the Ukrainian and Moldovan markets, where more mobilnet traffic is coming to websites from iPhones and iPads. These two handsets are still popular in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Latvia, but Samsung is also gaining ground in these countries.

- Regional data for Central and Eastern Europe reflects the worldwide trend in smartphone sales. Sales of Android-based devices are growing and are increasingly strengthening their position vis-à-vis iOS-based systems, the proportion of which has stagnated in recent years. The competition for manufacturers will be led by Samsung, followed by Apple, said Lauris Lietavietis, an online market expert at Gemius.

According to Lauris Lietavietis, Samsung’s mid-range products, which offer cheaper solutions, have high sales potential and this has a strong impact on the Korean manufacturer’s market share. "Therefore, an increase in the market share of other low-cost Android-based smartphone manufacturers is also expected in the near future," adds the Gemius expert.

In Hungary, Samsung's share rose from 27 to 32 percent in one year. Although the net traffic generated from Apple devices is leading, but the trend is stagnant. Thanks to Samsung’s strong growth rate, it will soon take the lead here as well. (see info graphics)

The data comes from www.rankingcee.com, which is based on traffic results measured on Gemius websites (gemiusTraffic). The aim of the website is to make this knowledge available free of charge via the Internet to all those who are interested in current trends. As part of the international page for the CEE region, you can also find www.rankings.hu with domestic data. Various popularity lists are available on the site, among many other features; browsers, operating systems, mobile devices, Flash Player versions, screen resolution, screen color adjustment, web directories, search engines, PC vs. non-PC traffic, and cookie acceptance rates.

Internet traffic generated by mobile devices is rising worldwide and in Hungary as well. Gemius Hungary also examined in detail the mobile usage habits of Internet users with smartphones over the age of 15, in the framework of a pop-up ad-hoc survey.
