The end of an era, bye bye Winamp!

The end of an era, bye bye Winamp!

In many cases, the milestones of computing are not hardware but software. Programs that defined an entire era that showed a path that everyone wanted to make. Such is Winamp!

The end of an era, bye bye Winamp!

The first version of Winamp was released in 1997. It was a revolutionary program, easy to use, supported multiple formats, and, due to its scalability, looked miles better than any other player before. Perhaps we can also say that the MP3 era would not have arrived without this program, or at a completely different pace.

One of the giants of the era, AOL, took an eye on the program, and the business was established in 1999, with the program developed by Nullszoft becoming $ 400 million for AOL. The player, although it has evolved over the years, has not been able to present much news. Perhaps an exception was the playback of streams, which contributed greatly to the development of Internet radio.

Nowadays, the program is available not only on Windows, but also on Android and Mac platforms, in line with the requirements of the age. It will be available at least until December.

According to the news, Winamp will disappear from the net after December 2013, 20, after 17 years of operation. Not only will the support be discontinued, but also the official download option. Of course, it is likely that winampra will be found in many places in the net pots later.

For my part, I say goodbye to the program with teary eyes, spending an entire era, perhaps the most active part of my life, with it. It’s good to think back to those years of listening to Winampos MP3. I will remember you forever Winamp!
