DVI instead of DMS59 again?

As the back of the video cards is getting narrower due to the large number of connectors, now is the chance to successfully introduce the old-new DMS59 interface this time.

Years ago, the two largest GPU manufacturers were already experimenting with shipping their high-end cards with the DMS59 interface. This attempt was still unsuccessful at the time. But what is it all about? As its name implies, it is a 59-pin layout that can handle two displays (DMS = Dual Monitor System). Accordingly, with the help of an adapter we can produce 2 DVI or D-Sub connectors at the same time, but we can also combine them.

As part of CeBIT 2006, GeCube will present its first card with such an interface in the person of a Radeon X1600 Pro. One of the company’s product managers said this card is only the first in a row to be released with a full DMS59 series, and a graphics controller with 2 DMS59 connectors is expected in the future, which will mean up to 4 we will also be able to drive db (!) screens. And remember: all this starting in the middle class, later it is expected that it will leak into the lower regions as well.

Manufacturers only have to deal with one thing: the license is in the hands of Molex, it is largely on it, or the widespread adoption of the standard is failing. What is encouraging for the future: the license fee is now a much lower percentage of the cost of manufacturing cards than it was 3-4 years ago.
