Coolink - the cool look

A Corator DS The novelty, dubbed, is housed in a horror-sized box. This already tells you a bit about the size of the rib, although in fact, it’s smaller than the box. This is not a problem, say, because we would not be able to use this size in any computer case.

After unpacking, you will find the cardboard hiding the accessories on the first “shelf”. There are a lot of widgets rattling in this, which anticipates the complexity of the equipment. In the next section, the rib is already flattened, which is really gigantic. Let's see the details!

The lamellas, the sole and the heat-conducting tubes together are 155 x 140 x 121 millimeters. It weighs 880 grams without a fan and 1040 grams with a fan. the fan is a PWM member of the SWIF series already discussed, so we will not write about it anymore. Let's see the rib instead!

The cooling tower consists of two parts. In my experience so far, this is more effective than the sum of the lamellae that reach all the tubes. The fan is located between the towers of the slats. The twice forty aluminum slats are strung on eight tubes. For the sake of fact, it is important to describe that we can physically speak of “only” four tubes, but they leave the sole in two directions so that heat can escape in eight directions. It is also important to know that the pipes are, of course, made of copper, but this is not important, but rather that they are not the usual four millimeters thick, but the thicker eight millimeters.

For me, the real curiosity was the sole, as I have never encountered such a design so far. It is no longer a novelty that the tubes touch the processor cap directly, as we have seen in other manufacturers. However, in previous designs, the pipes were simply flattened, with gaps and air gaps between and above them. However, in the case of Coolink Coratords, copper sheets were placed between the convex surfaces before the tubes were pressed, and the tubes were pressed into place with them. With this process, a completely cohesive copper surface is obtained at the bottom, and the copper block thus formed fits into the upper aluminum part of the sole without unnecessary gaps. Here we could wonder why the whole sole is not copper, but let's face it, the part above the pipes is not involved in the cooling, the pipes carry heat directly from the cap.

Equipment

In the case of a CPU cooler, a very important aspect is the quality of the components used for the equipment and that you do not need a technical degree for the cooling to take its rightful place above the processor. When unpacking the accessories, I predicted that the installation will not be easy. I need to correct myself a little now. The fact is that it is more complicated than the Intel snap-in method. It is also true that we will need a Phillips screwdriver, however, the installation will not take longer than 5 minutes.

The heat sink can only be screwed on after removing the motherboard. Due to the considerable weight, it was necessary to have a mounting frame on the bottom half of the motherboard as well. There are four screws in this, these hide through the holes in the motherboard. Then, on the processor side, four vinyl spacers are placed on the screws. Above these, we screw the actual support frame, and we fasten the rib itself with two screws. For this last operation, the fan must be removed.

Meres

Since we measured only one cooler in this article, we omit the graphs, rather we insert the diagram shown in the Everest load test. This shows the total temperature of the processor and the heat of the cores separately. After loading, recooling followed, which clearly shows the raw strength of the rib, as it cooled the core back to the pre-load state in a matter of seconds.

We used an Intel Core i7 980x Extreme Edition processor for the test, thinking we shouldn’t expect a heavier load than this during normal home use. The outside temperature is also an important data, as we can compare the values of the diagram with this. the room air temperature was 23 degrees during the measurement.
