Computex: the SSD “train” continues to rumble
OCZ came out with a hybrid RevoDrive, while G.Skill came out with the Phoenix II Pro family.
OCZ Technology delights the public with another RevoDrive. This time, however, it is a hybrid solution where NAND Flash and traditional hard drive technology are combined by the manufacturer. In addition to the 60 GB or 120 GB NAND Flash chips, an HDD with a capacity of 500 GB or 1 TB was paired. According to the manufacturer, the product speed can be 575 MB / s for sequential data reading and 500 MB / s for writing. The number of IO operations per second was 30.000, which was achieved with RAID-bound SandForce controllers. A cheaper version of the new hybrid RevoDrive (60GB SSD + 500GB HDD) could hit store shelves in July with a $ 350 price tag.
G.Skill promoted the family of Phoenix II Pro SSDs, which by the way this year On CeBIT could also be looked at. The series uses the SandForce SF-2281 controller, which was used to increase the sequential read and write speeds to 550 MB / s and 510 MB / s, respectively. IOPS is 60.000 and the SATA III interface is responsible for communicating with the computer. For the time being, the Phoenix II Pro line includes a 120GB and a 240GB model built around NAND Flash chips made at 25nm. No information has been provided on expected prices.
