Is Windows 8 doomed to fail?

Is Windows 8 doomed to fail?According to IDC, Windows 8 will be largely irrelevant to PC users and it is not worth expecting masses in this market to migrate from Windows 7 to Windows 8. According to analysts, the new operating system simply doesn’t offer enough novelty to be worth switching to, and Microsoft is already late in conquering the tablet PC market.

The Metro interface, which is a real big throwback to Windows 8, is only viable on touchscreen laptops and tablets. In a desktop environment, it is better to use the traditional interface, which Microsoft also provides. Somewhat surprising is the opinion of IDC analysts regarding PC users, as the minimum machine requirements for the new operating system can be said to be extremely friendly. Thanks to more memory-efficient operation, it is also conceivable that Windows 8 will be faster on the same machine than its predecessor. On second thought, even if IDC’s prediction comes true, there’s still Windows 7, the best-selling operating system of all time, at least according to Craig Beilinson, Microsoft’s director of marketing.

The news is that a beta version of Windows 8 may be released in February 2012. It may already be indicative of how open users are to the new system.
