Buffalo LinkStation LS-XL network drives on the horizon

Buffalo LinkStation LS-XL network drives on the horizonShowcasing its new hard drive series from Buffalo this week, the LinkStation LS-XLs were born into network storage roles.

The new Buffalo HDDs measure 45 × 175 × 150 millimeters and weigh 1,1 kilograms. Devices with a pretty design can be used in both landscape and portrait modes. The hardware has been passively cooled, so we won’t be able to complain about the noise, although since we’re not talking about a USB solution, we’ll most likely not be charging our everyday lives right next to the hard drive. Our LinkStations have a Gigabit Ethernet port that we can connect to, say, a router, so we can access the entire house from multiple devices at once, be it a TV, PC, Mac, smartphone or tablet, but of course we can also access our data online. Moreover, since DLNA is also supported by mass storage devices, we can easily stream our content to compatible devices. Fresh Buffalo newcomers have also been given a timer, so users can also set when to turn on / off with an included software. This can be useful when you are away from home and, for example, only use your hard drive in the evening after work. The LinkStation LS-XL family will come with a one-year warranty, first available in Japan in mid-July. The 1TB model costs $ 195, the double-seater version costs $ 260, while the 3-terre model costs $ 327. So it’s still a bit cheaper than Apple’s TimeCapsule.
