Video ads are annoying

Almost one in three Hungarian internet users is annoyed by ads under YouTube videos, while we find PR articles and Google ads useful, according to an independent survey of online advertising.

The PS: PRovocative PR agency asked thousands of Hungarian respondents about what types of online advertisements they find informative and annoying. The results show that we are most disturbed by the ads that appear under YouTube videos, but we like to read PR articles. In addition to email offers and Google AdWords ads, this type of communication is considered the most informative by Internet users, while only 6 percent say PR texts are annoying.

However, according to one third of the adult Hungarian population who use the Internet at least once a week, advertisements appearing before or during online videos are particularly annoying. In addition, it is young people who hate this type of advertising the most. For the 18-29 age group, the rejection rate reaches 40% and then decreases by age group, leaving only 50% of those over the age of 15 annoyed by video ads.

An interesting result of the PS: PRovocative survey is that the ads appearing on Facebook are less disturbing for Hungarian internet users than for traditional banners. The survey also found that young people and older people have a different attitude towards online advertising space: 18-29 year olds are less likely to find newsletters useful but at the same time receptive to PR articles. 30-39 year olds are less curious about Facebook-sponsored posts, and internet users in their fifties are annoyed by PR articles and banners on websites. In addition, it turned out that the forms of advertising that were considered informative were not necessarily popular. A good example of this is email marketing, which most respondents (40%) found useful, but also the second most annoying (30%) form of advertising after video ads (27%).
