Introducing the GeForce GTX 690
To some surprise, the Greens today unveiled the GeForce GTX 690, which can rightly claim the title of the most powerful video card.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 was unveiled by Jen-Hsun Huang, the company’s CEO, at a gaming festival in Shanghai. The newcomer combines the power of two GK104 graphics processors, meaning 3072 CUDA cores, 256 texturing units and 64 rasterization units are available to users, along with 4GB of GDDR5 onboard memory (exactly 2 × 2GB). There have been minor changes to the clocks. While on the GeForce GTX 680 the GPU spins at 1006 MHz, on the GTX 690 we need to catch up with the 915 MHz operating frequency. Of course, the boost clock is also lower, but we are not talking about a shocking difference (1058 MHz instead of 1019 MHz). These changes are designed to fit the consumption of the new cannon into the 300-watt PCI-SIG limit, which may also attract OEMs. The frequency of the memory chips is unchanged, so they continue to operate at 6,08 GHz. The GeForce GTX 680 is visibly starving for memory bandwidth, and accordingly, no changes were expected at this point.

Thanks to the premium quality components, the consumption was pleasant in relation to the performance, as well as the heat dissipation and noise emission. Despite all this, the monster received two 8-pin PCI-E power connectors, but this can presumably be attributed to better overclocking.

A few words about the expected performance
Despite appearances, the engineers only pinched the GK104 tile where it didn't hurt much. The GeForce GTX 690 can be virtually similar in speed to the GeForce GTX 680 running in SLI mode, but it consumes significantly less and is quieter. Of course, according to the company, the card is designed for a multi-monitor environment and can easily handle extremely high resolutions. In terms of outputs, we also have three dual-link DVIs and a mini-DisplayPort connector. The good news for eternal maximalists may be that the GeForce GTX 690 is familiar with Quad SLI technology. It is worth noting that the engineers replaced the NF3.0 bridge chip with a PLX controller due to PCI Express 200 support.

The GeForce GTX 690 will be available in limited quantities in stores on the third day of May. Wider availability is expected after May 7th. The Graphic Monster of the Greens is available for $ 999.
