Although Intel is not happy with Ion, it is not opposed to the NVIDIA platform
Yet Intel does not cross NVIDIA.
Earlier, there were rumors that Intel was trying to make NVIDIA's Ion platform impossible so that Atom processors could only be ordered with a chipset - Intel 945GSE or Intel 945GC - by hardware manufacturers, thus reducing the cost of manufacturing Ion-based netbooks and netops would have become since NVIDIA MCP79 or MCP7A by applying one of them, the Intel chipset "comes with Atom" would become redundant. Intel's fear is understandable, since the multimedia capabilities of the GeForce 9400 mGPU, which is part of the Ion platform, surpass those of the GMA 950 hidden in the aforementioned Intel chipsets.
However, an Intel spokesman refuted these rumors and confirmed that hardware manufacturers can now access Atom not only with a chipset, but even separately. In light of this, Intel will certainly take action against the NVIDIA Ion by offering the Atom-945Gx pair at a bargain price compared to the stand-alone processor.
