Epic Games favors Blu-ray

Due to the size of Unreal Tournament III, Epic Games has voted for Blu-ray.

As already in our previous news we reported that Epic Games salvation will hit store shelves for PC and PS3 in November this year, while the Xbox 360 version may be released in the first quarter of 2008. According to the latest justification, this exception can be explained by the lack of capacity of double-layer DVDs.

Because the PlayStation 3's optical drive can handle Blu-ray Discs, game developers have a minimum of 25GB of storage. By default, the Microsoft console only handles DVDs by default, HD DVD media also requires a Toshiba optical unit, which can be purchased as an optional accessory, so programmers and graphics cannot rely on it.

This forces the developers of Epic Games to skip a few tracks for UT3, rewrite the game in some places, and compress some textures, as the planned dual-layer DVD also provides little space. So, most of all, this justifies the delay in the Xbox 360 version compared to the PC and PS3 versions.
